Hey there! So we’ve all seen these awesome tassel necklaces somewhere. As I was browsing through Pinterest the other day I got inspired and decided to create a fool proof tutorial that any average joe will be able to follow. I do not make necklaces on the regular so I wanted this to be pretty easy to accomplish.
I was very happy with the outcome. This necklace takes just a simple top or dress and makes it unique. With some very basic items from your local craft store, you can have yourself an inexpensive, fun addition to your wardrobe. Not to mention.. It was super relaxing taking some time to make this great craft.
With the tassels made in this tutorial, you can add them to shirts, pillows blankets etc! The possibilities are endless 🙂
Here is a list of things that I bought at my local Joann’s Craft store
- Thick cotton cord (7yd/6.4m)
- 4 bundles of craft string (each bundle makes 1 tassel)
- Silver key rings
- Silver spacer beads
- Boho accent gems (optional)
Take your thick cotton cord and cut about 37in. Feel free to make it longer or shorter depending on what you want.
Take the old gift card and fold about a half inch piece over the top and then begin to wrap almost the whole bundle of string around the gift card. You want to leave enough string to tie around the top of your tassel and to wrap around it (I left about 50 in.) When you have finished wrapping cut the string at the bottom of the card.
Now to finish off your tassel you are going to cut about a 4in. piece of string and tie it around the top of your tassel (it doesn’t have to be super tight). Cut off any excess string after making the knot. Next, you are going to take your scissors, slide them under the string at the bottom of the gift card and cut straight across and remove your tassel from the card. Then you are going to take the remainder of the string and wrap it around the top of the tassel to finish off the beautiful look. When you start to wrap leave about a 2in. piece so you can make a knot at the end. This is what it should look like.
Now make the remaining three tassels just like you made this one. You definitely do not have to make four! After that you are going to take the knot you made at the top of your tassels and put key rings on all of them.
Step 5: *Optional
At Joann’s I found some really cute boho gems and added them to my key rings. This is totally up to you!
Now for your final step you want to take your necklace string and add all of your spacer beads. Then you want to add all of your key rings. Just kind of spread out every thing to the way you like it. Now, tie a really tight knot at the top of your necklace and cut off any excess string. And there you have it! Your necklace is finished. Now, go add this to an outfit that needs some excitement (:
